Summer is underway and with the season in full effect, so are the BBQs, family gatherings, fire pit parties, and pool parties. For some, this is the best part of the season, getting to host family and friends and enjoy a day out in the sun. For others, this is an arduous task, that is more stressful than anything. Here at Chica Intelligente, we are used to planning events, from large-scale corporate conferences to small intimate gatherings, so we wanted to share some summertime event planning tips for all of our readers who find hosting to be, well stressful. While these tips may not make you love hosting, we assure you, they can alleviate the stress!
1. Employ your friends and family for help!
Sometimes we think it’s taboo to ask our guests to assist us. But there’s nothing wrong with asking for a helping hand. Ask a few close family members and friends to come earlier in the day and help you set up. Create checklists for them so each person has an assigned job to help things run more smoothly.
2. Encourage guests to bring a dish.
While it may sound enticing to cook for 50 people all by your lonesome (haha), it is not always practical. In the event that you don’t have time to prepare such a large meal, ask your guests to each bring a dish. You can even create a theme around the cuisine and ask each person to contribute something. This not only makes for a fun time of sampling new foods but allows you to take one thing off your plate. Also, don’t shy away from ordering from your favorite local restaurant! You are also supporting local entrepreneurship.
3. Don’t sweat the small stuff
Did you run out of ice and it’s going to take someone 15 minutes to run to the nearest store? That’s ok! At the end of the day, everyone is there to enjoy each other’s company and have a good time. Things will never go perfectly, but roll with the punches and enjoy your time with everyone!
