This past weekend, I saw Tina the Musical, and let me tell you! It was an EXPERIENCE.
First of all, get ready to groove in your seat, because once I heard the Queen of Rock N’ Rolls songs, I couldn’t help myself! But seriously, this musical is an absolute must see and you NEED to see it before it closes on August 14, 2022. I mean, get your ticket ASAP.
For one, I have to shout out the incredible performers! Every single person had energy that was electric, and made me feel like I really was at a concert. Now, I didn’t grow up during Tina’s prime, but this show brought back memories of being in the car with my parents as they blasted some of her hits like “What's love got to do with it, River Deep, Mountain High, and Let’s Stay Together”. It had such a wholesome nostalgic feel and I enjoyed every second of it.
I brought along my mom, sister, and partner, who all felt the same, and we are all VASTLY different ages. Not only is it a feel good musical for viewers of all ages, but Nkeki Obi-Melekwe, who is playing Tina, is an absolute powerhouse performer. She has the vocals, the dancing, and the acting down to a science. At one point, I felt like I was watching Tina. Her voice is beautiful and melodic, but hits those earth shattering notes that Tina is known for. Also, watching her run across the stage and keep up with all of the dances made me feel like I just watched a marathon. Not once did she appear tired or out of breath, she was just a class-act.
This show has been running on Broadway before the pandemic, but now with its closing, people are itching to get tickets to see it. I would recommend trying to snag some tickets for a weekday show, because the weekend shows are bound to be packed!
We hope you are able to see it. Otherwise, put on an old Tina record, and jam out at home!
